Retailer Primark has recently unveiled its first sustainable leisurewear collection, part of the Primark Cares range, which is practically made from recycled cotton from unused fabric waste and recycled clothing.
Recover’s recycling process for producing these sustainable pieces of clothing involves cutting and breaking down textile waste into new high-quality fibers.
Nowadays, buying sustainable clothing, shoes, or fashion accessories isn´t something that is within everyone´s reach due to its high monetary value. Thus, Primark’s new production strategy has emerged that goal to make the textile sector more sustainable and accessible to anyone who wants to start their sustainable journey.
Sustainable Leisurewear Collection
The fashion line of sustainable collection consists of just eight items, which are available in 179 Primark stores globally. Of these eight items, the leisurewear line offers customers hoodies, tracksuits, sweaters, and t-shirts in white, black, and gray. There is also the possibility to buy different pieces and combine them, for example, a t-shirt and a tracksuit.
Each piece of clothing is 15% to 20% recycled cotton. The rest of the composition is made up of a a mixture of fibers such as sustainable cotton, organic cotton, and polyester, and a few other small materials.
As one of the main objectives of the large multinational was to offer sustainable fashion at accessible prices, the values of the piece of clothing in this line don´t exceed 15 dollars (12 euros), ranging from 5 and 14 dollars (4.10 euros to 11.47 euros).
As the Primark Cares director says, Primark fashion should be as sustainable as possible without exceeding a high price. If a citizen wants to be a conscious consumer the price should not be a barrier to that behavior.
Sustainable fashion should be within the reach of anyone who wants to help reduce their environmental footprint.
