Summer 2020’s Take On The Check Shirt Is A Fashion Favourite

Originally posted at Who What Wear

While for some the thought of a check shirt might conjure up images of a well-dressed dad at a barbeque or memories of a childhood school uniform, this season the item has had a decidedly stylish makeover. And although the anecdotal evidence of this is clear—several influencers have been seen embracing the button-down—there’s also data to prove the theory.

According to fashion search engine Lyst, check shirts have seen a 38% increase in searches over the last few weeks, with styles by ASOS and Jacquemus amongst the most viewed. And although Jacquemus’ S/S20 yellow shirt was a guaranteed winner on the runway, seen on Instagram feeds worldwide after it’s debut in a lavender field in Provence, I personally feel like a different check shirt could be credited for item’s recent resurgence.

Earlier this year, La Veste, the brand co-founded by Blanca Miro released a range of check shirts with peter-pan collars and a squiggle line trim. The style has since been worn by a multitude of influencers worldwide, including, of course, Miro herself, as well as Camille Charriere, Nnenna Echem and Bubbly Aquarius. In short, it’s the shirt that launched a thousand Instagrams.

While the item is now sold out, evidently the popularity of the check shirt has stuck around for summer 2020. With this in mind, we’ve put together an edit of the best check shirts available. Keep scrolling to see how influencers are wearing the trend, and shop check shirts below.
